Yahoo barfed

Postby palmspringsbum » Mon Jun 12, 2006 5:16 pm

In case you were wondering why the board wasn't here, Yahoo barfed while I was uploading this new style. It took them at least a week to grant me access after they essentially locked me out of my website. I didn't have ftp service and could not access my web hosting control panel. This has happened numerous times and I would normally be transferred to another webhost at this point, but I just can't afford to do that now.

Hopefully, it won't happen again.

I still haven't been able to get the calendar to work again nor have I been able to successfully reinstall it.

This new style has a "watch this thread for replies" feature and has a few other aspects I prefer over the previous one. However, the text isn't visible in the tables, I'm going to have to edit those individually. If you run across a table where the text isn't visible, bring it to my attention and I'll fix it.

Data loss

Postby palmspringsbum » Sun Nov 05, 2006 2:31 pm

Thursday night, after having just finished posting a huge number of articles here Yahoo barfed again, while I was trying to make a backup.

When the dust had settled I had enough bits and pieces left of the database to sew it back together.

I have now finished restoring the data, record by record.

If you run across any links that don't seem to point where they should, send me a PM so I can fix them.

Yahoo barfed again.

I generated a revision of my genealogy (35,000 files, give or take a few) and before I got the first 10,000 ftped to my site Yahoo had choked. And barfed.

That's why the BBS wasn't running (if anyone noticed). When Yahoo barfed it took out my SQL server, my php, my ftp, and my Web Hosting Control panel.

I couldn't even log in.

The technician pretty much confirmed what I figured, that they want to make sure I'm not sending top secret directives via Da Vinci code in my genealogy report...

...sorry about the outage. It isn't my fault.

And I'm looking into changing web hosts.

Believe me, I am SICK SICK SICK of Yahoo.

This has been a consistent problem for over a year now. At the very least they could have told me that if I send more than x number of files over x period of time I will find myself locked out of my website, with it half-broken...

...but I guess that information is top secret as well, eyes-only and need-to-know stuff. :irre:
