Too many marijuana plants

An East Marysville man had a medical marijuana card, but he and his wife had far more of the drug than allowed when their home was raided Tuesday, police said.

Nick Adams/Appeal-Democrat</span></td></tr></table>More than 15 neighbors and passers-by had called about the backyard garden that filled the 1100 block of Nadene Drive with the pungent odor of budding marijuana, said Marysville police Sgt. Christian Sachs.

Arrested were Charles Michael Paul, 42, and his wife, Michelle Lynn Paul, 39.

Medical marijuana users are limited to possessing 8 ounces of processed marijuana and six mature plants, said Sachs, but more than 5 pounds of the processed drug were confiscated. The Pauls surrendered 11 mature plants, he said.

Charles Paul said the plants “grew too fast” and that he didn’t know he would end up having that much, said Sachs.

The spicy odor of marijuana buds, some nearly a foot long, filled the Marysville Police Department as officers booked the plants into evidence.

Meanwhile, the Pauls were across the street awaiting booking into Yuba County Jail on charges expected to include unlawful cultivation and furnishing the drug, said Sachs.

The raid was prompted by the arrest Monday of a suspect who said the Pauls had given him some marijuana and mentioned how much was growing at their house, said Sachs.

Also arrested Tuesday at the Paul residence were Laurence Paradis, 18, on suspicion of possessing the drug Ecstasy, and 18-year-old Timothy Whitington, who was cited for marijuana possession and released, police said.

Police visited the Paul home about three weeks ago, warned the couple they had too much marijuana and confiscated seven plants, said Sachs.
