THE ORANGE REGISTERBUENA PARK City officials have extended a moratorium banning medical marijuana dispensaries from operating inside the city.
Last week, City Council members voted for the ban on selling medical cannabis for 10 months and 15 days. The original ban was 45 days long.
Officials can spend up to one year at a time researching the best possible solution for allowing or not allowing medical marijuana sales.
After 12 months, officials can request to extend the ban.
The moratorium follows a written request to open a dispensary, submitted in October by Mira Knott, who listed a Buena Park business address.
In the letter, addressed to the Police Department, Knott included ordinances explaining restrictions in other cities like West Hollywood, which allow medical marijuana.
City and police officials are concerned that allowing medical marijuana sales would be contradictory to federal law.
In 1996, Californians voted to allow such sales for medicinal purposes.
